Save Money, Time, & Struggles With Walmart Grocery Pickup!

So happy to have found Walmart Grocery Pickup!

If you haven’t tried this yet- don’t knock it.  It truly saves me money and time every week.  Let me tell you why.

Impulse buying is drastically cut

No more tempting items placed at your eye level.  You can shop for your groceries online and place them in your cart- just like as if you were shopping on Amazon!

This lets you see the dollar amount of each item and how much your total is before you buy.  No risk of impulse buys that some of us may fall victim to (I was the queen of impulse buying ugh!!).

I have been able to save over $150 a month consistently by doing this.

And….wait for it…IT’S FREE!!!  That’s right ladies and gents- TOTALLY FREE.

I am able to stick to my grocery budget by being able to see exactly how much I’m spending beforehand

Just the other day I had to run to Kroger to pickup some yogurt that they don’t carry at Walmart.  How in the world did I walk out spending close to $50?  I literally went in with one thing on my list-yogurt.  Not $50 yogurt- just yogurt.  So yes- the lady in the picture is totally me.

See- I spend so much more when I go inside and start grabbing items, versus placing them in a virtual cart online with all price totals in front of me.  Those impulse buys get me every time.

Convenience for disabled, injured, and those that struggle with shopping

This convenient feature really reduces stress and frustration

Can’t reach higher up items?  You don’t have to stress about trying to find someone to help you get those anymore.

Those crowded aisles- you don’t have to worry about maneuvering through them in a wheelchair anymore.  You would think that people would be polite and move- but not everyone does.

The only free time you have to grocery shop is late at night- alone in the dark parking lot?  Don’t feel safe? I don’t blame you- you don’t have to worry about that anymore either!

I remember after I had gallbladder surgery, I had a hard time just finding someone at the grocery store to pick up the Ozarka for me because I couldn’t.  Then I had to ask someone to help me load it into my car because I wasn’t supposed to lift anything that heavy yet.

Now, imagine you have this limitation all of the time?  Just more steps you have to worry about – not anymore!

Double whammy of saving time and money

I initially tried this to save myself some time when I was working 10+ hours a day, because I could simply choose my pickup time, go after work and all I had to was unpack the groceries. That literally saved me close to an hour each time.

But- that is when I noticed the huge savings!

Another bonus is that if they are out of an item that you picked-they will substitute it with something else but still only charge you for the price of your initial pick. So let’s say you had picked a 4 pack of Spicy Black Bean Burgers (yummm!) but they were out.  They instead substituted it with the same brand but the 8 pack for the same price!

That’s quite courteous I would say.

When your order is ready- they send you an email with the summary, letting you know if any of the items you had chosen were out of stock.  They then will show you what they substituted or what they just were not able to fill.

Here is what they sent me this morning actually.  So instead of their own brand, they replaced it with Del Monte.  Same price though- so they don’t upgrade you to name brand and charge you for the name brand.

You can use their app or you can log in to their site on your computer.

Either way, the site/app remembers your frequently purchased items and puts them in a “favorites” section so you can quickly find them and add them to your cart.

I find this helpful because I may have forgotten something, and it reminds me that I may need lettuce or hummus.

At first I was a bit leery about having someone else pick my produce, but so far after using this for over 6 months I have yet to get any bad fruit or vegetables.  In fact, they pick better grapes than I ever have.

No complaints from me so far with what they pick out.

Friendly Service

The staff is always so friendly and they load it in your trunk for you.  They even bring up the eggs and bread to you so that you have it up front and separated from things that could crush it.

One time I had ordered a watermelon and the guy came up front to tell me he wedged it behind the case of Ozarka so that it would not roll around in the trunk.  How helpful!

Another fun touch- if you are nice and they aren’t too busy- they will sometimes give you a little baggie of candy when you pick up your groceries.

How they stood out and won me over

At first, I wasn’t going each week to Walmart, but they won me over after something they did.  There was a listeria scare with romaine lettuce (seems to happen every year doesn’t it?).

I had purchased some lettuce from them within that month and they refunded my purchase back to the card I had used automatically.  I didn’t even have to call /email and ask them!

Wow!  My other grocery stores have never done that for me- they just put verbiage on the receipt and tell me to go to Customer Service for a refund.

Sometimes it’s the little things that really make the difference isn’t it?

To me (many years of customer service management), when a company hits a homerun with their customer service, I take notice and give them credit.

Now even better!

You can now use ibotta as of July, 2019 so that is another plus for the service.  You just need to originate your grocery purchase throught the ibotta app instead of going directly to the Walmart grocery website.

Just so you are aware, Kroger offers a pickup service but they charge $5 for it.  Your first 3 times are free but after that, there is a charge.  Walmart is always free (but they do have a minimum of $30 that you have to order to use the pickup service).

I used to have to set aside at least an hour of my day to go to the grocery store, shop and come back to put it all away.  It has really simplified this process for me.

You can get started on your first order by clicking here.  It’s so easy to use and super quick.  Bottom line- Walmart grocery pickup has been a total game changer for me with money and time- in a GOOD way!
